It's Valentines Time!

Yay! I'm so excited to start working on Valentines treats & crafts! I love Love Day and I think that this one will be the best ever since I'm starting early on all my projects. I'll be collecting ideas from all over so get ready for some pink & red overload.

First I looked for the quintessential Valentines Day treat- Red Velvet Cake. There are many ways to go about serving this treat- so pick your favorite and dive on in.

There's the Bakerella Red Velvet Cake Balls for an easy, pop in your mouth treat.

And the Bakerella psycho Valentines Cake which is too ridiculous and amazing for me to attempt this year. Maybe next year I'll have the cajones. :)

One thing about Bakerella, she is soooo incredible but she uses boxed cake mix a lot, which I usually can't bring myself to do. I figure if I'm going to take the time to bake a cake, I'm going to go the whole nine yards and start from scratch. Also, I'm kind of a cake snob. BUT- if I were to use a cake mix I would definitely use Sprinkles Red Velvet Cake Mix from Williams and Sonoma.

Then you could make Sprinkles Cupcakes in your own kitchen! Delicious!

After some research, I found this recipe from the Magnolia Bakery in NYC for their version of Red Velvet Cupcakes with Creamy Vanilla Icing. I will be using this recipe but Sprinkles Cream Cheese Frosting recipe, since the best part of Red Velvet Cake is always the Cream Cheese Frosting. Yum. Here's the Magnolia Recipe and the Sprinkles Frosting recipes in printable form for you, now get baking!

  2. Paula Deen's red velvet recipe is better than the Magnolia one. I've tried them both and I'm sticking with Paula! I do like Magnolia for vanilla cupcakes though.
